The Society wouldn't be here without volunteers and welcomes people of all ages and abilities to pursue their passions and assist in various areas. We are currently recruiting volunteers to fill the following roles.
Museum Hosts: (8 people, May-September)
Greeting visitors and giving tours of the ELMHS museum.
Selling merchandise from the museum gift shop.
Ensuring safety protocols are being followed.
Light housekeeping including dusting, vacuuming, emptying trash, etc.
Minimum time commitment: 2-4 hrs/month.

Volunteer Coordinator:
Maintaining a working relationship with the Executive Director and ELMHS volunteers.
Scheduling volunteers for shifts at the ELMHS museum, archives, and at special events.
Tracking volunteer hours and reporting monthly to the Executive Director.
With the help of the Executive Director, training and supervising volunteers.
Must be comfortable working with computers including sending and receiving emails, using Google Drive, and scheduling software such as SignUp Genius.
Minimum time commitment: 4 hrs/month
Membership and Fundraising Committee: (3-5 people)
Creating and overseeing fundraising events and activities; and membership social events and activities.
Acquiring, renewing, retaining and acknowledging memberships and individual, corporate and foundation contributions, including grant writing.
Recruiting, training, retaining and acknowledging Society volunteers.
Minimum time commitment: 6 hrs/month
Public Programs Committee Members: (3-5 people)
Meeting monthly either in person or online to plan programs for our members and the public.
Conducting public programs as appropriate.
Publicizing public programs in conjunction with the Communications Committee.
Set up and take down for public programs including: Tapping History at the Excelsior Brewing Company, History Cruises on Lake Minnetonka, the ELMHS Annual Fundraiser, member-only events, virtual presentations, etc.
Minimum time commitment: 6 hrs/month
Communications Committee Members: (3-5 people)
Meeting monthly in person or online to plan, prepare, and execute ELMHS marketing and communications.
Writing press releases for ELMHS activities including programs, grants, and more
Creating material for social media campaigns including Facebook and Instagram
Preparing emails using MailChimp or similar software to communicate Society updates to our members and community
Planning and designing the ELMHS newsletter using Microsoft Publisher or similar software. The newsletter is published three times a year.
Helping the Executive Director update and maintain the ELMHS website.
Minimum time commitment: 6 hrs/month
