Do you care deeply about the history of the Excelsior-Lake Minnetonka area? Take another step as a Board Member and submit an application for a position on our Board of Directors. The Board is elected by our members at our Annual Meeting in June to serve as their representatives and ensure the Historical Society remains focused on our vision and mission. This year three of nine seats are up for election.
Board responsibilities include:
Overseeing ELMHS's financial condition
Connecting to our members
Shaping our vision
Working closely with the Executive Director to set long-term strategies to attain this vision
Board member qualifications include:
Being a member of ELMHS
Strong communication skills, strategic thinking, and leadership experience
Experience making decisions in a group setting
Ability to undertake fiduciary responsibility on behalf of ELMHS and its members
Ideal candidates share a passion for history. They bring skill sets from accounting, law, business, or non-profit management. Board members are elected to a three-year term. Board meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at the ELMHS Archives located at 261 School Ave, Excelsior. The average monthly commitment is 3 - 8 hours (more for officers), depending on individual committee and project workloads. Board members are asked to host at the ELMHS Museum once a month, plan and attend society events throughout the year, serve on committees, and fill other vital roles to ensure the success of the organization. In March, the board may interview applicants to better assess their interests and qualifications before approving the slate in early May 2021, prior to the Annual Meeting.
Members of the Society who are interested in a position on the board are encouraged to send a letter of interest to President Deanna Bunkelman by Monday, March 1, 2020 at president@elmhs.org or to P.O. Box 305, Excelsior, MN 55331.
